Geometry or Convergence?!

Hi,

I had a tech come to my place a while back to fix the convergence on my Hitachi 53FDX, he did that via the service menu he accessed using a button on the lower left of my tv behind a panel he removed in the front.

I cant complain about the color, the reds, greens and blues are all lined up pretty well but he messed with the greens and now the geometry is fubar on the bottom of my screen.

Scrolling text (generics) are bigger at the bottom of the screen and get thinner as they go up, planets or other round objects are deformed in the lower section of the tv etc...

So i need to go in there and do what exacty? im a bit lost after all the reading I did, dcam, convergence, dont hold the blue button, hold the blue button, point convergence, etc... Ive read to much my head hurts lol.

So i was under the impression that I need some kind of template/grid overlay to put in front of my tv which ill use to line up the green properly, giving it the right geometry. Then I line up the other colors to the green... is that about it?

Then i heard about saving the settings to magic focus or it wont work?
Arrggg.. to much info :hush:

Any way to do it without a convergence template? If not does anyone have the a scan of it? for a 53fdx? I have access to huge plotters and scanners I could print one :p or even, if someone cares to take some measurements of theirs, I could photoshop one and print it on transparent paper.

Thx for your help.

If you get the service manual it should have the information about the procedures and most Hitachi manuals have the dimensions for the template. You have to pretty much work from a complete reset to do much with geometry. You may be able to get some of it out with higher level adjustment but you will likely waste a lot of time.

I suggest getting the documentation and reviewing the procedures then deciding based on what needs to be done. If you really want it as god as it can get it will likely be more efficient to start from reset. This would be unwise without documentation and confidence that you understand the entire process.
