Intermittent Issue with HL-R4667W

Hello,

I have the issue where the screen goes black(ie. the lamp is still on but there's a black image) and then the image will return. I notice that when the image comes back, I see the info box pop up what tells me what the source is( ex. HDMI1 or Component1). From reading thru the forum, I gather this might be a digital board issue. I have ordered and received PN bp94-02084a. I want to confirm that I have the order of operations correct:
Load service menu Mute, 1, 8, 2, Power
Copy down all settings
transfer settings from the digital board data to the DMD
Shut off and unplug tv.
Remove back cover.
Disconnect board.
Connect new board.
Put back cover on.
Plug back in.
Load service menu Mute, 1, 8, 2, Power
transfer settings from the DMD to the digital board

Are there any gotchas I should watch out for?

Thanks,

Dan

Make sure that you get all cables back where they belong. It is a good idea to take pix, both of the connections before taking it apart and the service menus.

Mike,

Yes, replacing the digital board did fix the issue. As mentioned above, take pictures before and after you unplug each cable. The cables are different enough so as long as you photograph them, it is possible to put them back the correct way. Please remember to ground yourself before touching the inside of the TV. Also, check to make sure that the service menu settings are correct.

You will be able to turn the TV on, however, you will need to set alot of the settings by hand. I went thru and photographed all the settings on my tv. I will upload them if you wish.

Thanks Dan!

I also have this symptom of the screen sometimes showing some semi-transparent grey boxes on the screen. It tends to go away once the tv blanks out and comes back on again. Was yours doing this as well?

Just want to make sure before I drop a couple hundred bucks fixing this

Just replaced the board and the tv came right up. Now my problem is the menus are flipped. I lost my original remote and use my Verizon Fios remote for the tv but that wont work to get me to the service menu.

Is my only option to purchase a new remote?

But Samsung says these sets don't have digital board problems. Do you actually trust your own experience and the guys here over their support people? They must pay them at least a buck over minimum wage...and surely a company like Samsung would not lie to you.

You may find a programmable remote that will work but it is easier to just use the Samsung remote. You might find one on the cheap and faster if one of the local shops has a used one for sale. Many have a box of old remotes and you might get lucky.

Mike,

I didn't have that issue but that seems like a secondary symptom. The primary symptom is the going to black. In detail, when watching a program on my Tivo DVR, the image would freeze for a second, then go black for a second or two, then comeback with the info box popping up showing which input it was using. This would happen every five minutes or once a hour. It was not consistent.

Fog80,

I used my Logitech Harmony Remote with the key sequence Mute, 1, 8, 2 Power. I would suspect that any cheap universal remote would work.

Jason1976,

I take it that lcaillo's first paragraph is sarcasm.
