Samsung HLR5067W won't come on

Hello: I have a Samsung HLR5067WX/XAA. The tv failed to come on one morning. I had an extra bulb on hand so I changed it, with no problems. Buttoned everything back up, plugged the power cable in, hit the on switch on the remote and all I hear is the switches/relays clicking, then the Lamp/Timer/and I've forgotten what the other indicator is now, but after about 3 attempts, they just flash on and off. I've tried reseating the lamp. I tried firing the tv up with the cover off and I could see that it appears that the lamp is coming on, but the tv still fails to power up. I've seen in other forums (that don't respond to questions very promptly) that there are 2 fans and a color wheel in this set. I'm up for replacing whatever need be, I just don't know the troubleshooting protocol, nor do I know the part numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Mise

I am not sure what you mean by the tv not powering up. If the lamp comes on, the color wheel has to have come up to speed and most of the power supply is operating. Most likely a digital board problem, but it could also be one of the power supplies or front panel controls.

I have a few questions. Can you see the lamp lighting up in the back of the set? Can you hear the color wheel spinning? It kind of sounds like when a cd player spins up. Do you hear the samsung deep da deep sound as it powers up?

Also check the switch in the back of the tv were the lamp goes in on the door make sure the switch little plastic lever didn't break. the switch has to be pressed in or it wont let the lamp on.

at Jason: Thanks - The lamp comes on, but I can tell how bright it is, nor do I know how bright it's supposed to be. Not sure about the color wheel spinning, I'll check that next. Yes, I hear the "deep da deep" when it powers up. I'll check the switch too, thanks.

at lcaillo & amlederer: Thanks - the bulb, fans, etc, I'm comfortable with. The digital board....may be beyond me. But thanks for the info. I may still try and order one.

for the lamp to come on the color wheel must be spinning. and the beeping is normally a good sine that the digital board is coming on. I am starting to get lost on your set. I am scratching my head. with all 3 lights flashing there maybe something wrong with the ballast also.

My next question have you tried starting it up into the service menu? Have you had the power off and with the remote press in order. Mute 1 8 2 power. There is a place in there to reset the lamp timer. I am wondering if the lamp timer needs reset.

Changing the digital board is really no big deal and takes about 20-30 minutes and is just a matter of some screws and plugs. If you search youtube for samsung reball there is a 5 part video of a guy doing a full repair to one, but part one shows him taking the board out.

The degree to which it is a big deal varies tremendously with the individual. For someone that is comfortable taking things apart and putting them back together it is no big deal. For the average consumer it can be a challenge. We have seen many people do it with no problem and many others who have fits with what seems simple for some.

Obviously Samsung doesn't seem to acknowledge this manufacture's defect. It seems the famous DNIE chip that samsung market's s thier miracle technology is the cause of the problem. To be fair the chip works, just how the chip seems to become loose on the digital board due to week solder.

This is not something unique to Samsung nor the DNIE chip. The problem is that the process for installing a BGA chip is very critical. The design of the board and the circuit also requires appropriate heat sinking. Other products have had very similar problems, mad worse by the use of lead free solder.

Far worse, IMO, than the quality problems that have been observed in a number of Samsung products is the company's conduct with respect to service. They have essentially destroyed their relationship with the best servicers in the USA by constantly cutting rates, making unreasonable demands, and pretending that they can provide effective service through companies that use low skilled workers. That does not make them unique in the consumer electronics industry these days, but they are generally regarded by many servicers as among the worst companies to do business with for warranty repairs. I know of many companies that have dropped them or simply refuse to do warranty work for them.

at Jason: Thanks - I tried (Power off) Mute, 1,8,2,Power and the TV goes through the dee da dee, clicking, I do hear a motor running but I don't know if it's the fan/fans or color wheel. The screen remains black. I've been real busy with work the last few days and this is the first thing I've tried since the other day.

If the lamp comes on in a DLP the color wheel is spinning. You don't get a lamp enable from the DMD to the ballast until that happens. No pix with the lamp lit can be either DMD or Digital board. I have seen power supply problems with regulators on the DMD board cause this, as well as the more common digital board problems. It is very difficult to know for sure without a scope and knowing what to look for. Even then, it can be a guess. I would be checking the voltages on the regulated supplies to the DMD circuits, as well as looking for activity on the TMDS lines on the DVI cable from the digital board to the DMD. If you have nothing there, you can be sure it is the digital bd. YOu should be able to see changes in activity when activating the menu.

Thank you everyone for your prompt and helpful replies. I haven't had any luck getting the set to come on, so I've replaced it. I may try and find a dead tv and try swapping some parts. We'll see. Thanks again for everyone's help, you've been most kind.
