How annoying is it that every time a commercial comes on you have to turn down the receiver or TV volume?
Any solutions for this annoying, nagging problem? It is really hassle when you are watching cable TV. :(

I hate it too especially late at night, but relief is due soon. The CALM Act is a government regulation to control the sound differences. The act goes into action as of dec 12th even though the bill was passed over a year ago.

Whoo Hooo... Relief!!!!

I thought the regulation already went tinto effect, but when I saw this post I was reminded that the volume level still changes. I found out about this having a random convo with friends a while back when it was about to get approval, and it took almost 2 years to actually take effect.

For the person with the Onkyo receiver and the built in function, which model do you have??

Advertisers compress the audio to make the low volume parts louder. I guess the TV broadcasters are going to have to run the commercials through a separate compressor just to handle the commercials audio?
But honestly . . . how are they going to enforce this new law . . .

Noticing time has passed since passing along info about regulations for those annoying commercials. I have been recently watching tv and personally not noticing much of a change in the variant sound. Anyone else still notice extra loud commercials when viewing?!

I also have not noticed the commercials being louder than the programming of late. I do recall having that problem before though. Another problem I recall was the volume level changing between channels. I will have to check and see if they have been equalized too.

I try my best to predict when a commercial is about to hit and preemptively drop the volume or quickly mash mute before my speakers blow. I know there are a number of 3rd party standalone devices and TVs (I think Sony & Panasonic) which are designed to handle excessive commercial volumes. I'd recommend the Geffin GTV-VOLCONT (UPC 845344062198) due to it's support for SPDIF and Analog Sources.

This article backs up complaints of still running into loud commercials. I figured as such, and to no surprise it's due partly to manipulation of the act's language. The article even talks about how this is only going to be a effective as the FCC's enforcement.

This really concerns me mainly for the fact I watch tv at night and don't like to be a bother with the surround on. I just don't like having to make adjustments every time a commercial comes on. I like the idea of my system being thought of as a pleasure and not a nuisance.
