Hi all,

My name is James and I live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England.

I work as a live events technician doing predominantly lighting but with a great interest in AV and sound (obviously as it's the reason I'm here :)).

I decided to join after reading some very informative posts and hope to educate myself in the mystical ways of the home theatre enthusiast. Whilst I'm working in a related field I consider myself a relative newcomer and it's both exciting and a bit overwhelming. So what do I have:

Video Gear
  • Sony 40" HX853 LCD TV
  • PS3
  • Apple TV 3
  • Samsung BD-F6500 Smart 3D Blu-ray Player (Running Plex App)
  • Home-brew NAS running FreeNAS and Plex Media Server

Sound Gear
  • Denon 2113 AVR
  • Pair or Monitor Audio BX2 Bookshelf Speakers on Soundbyte Z2 Speaker Stands
  • Monitor Audio BX Centre
  • BK Electronics XLS200 MK2 Subwoofer

It's a relatively modest list as I'm only just starting out but I do enjoy watching / listening to it. In the future I hope to improve upon the equipment I own and improve my ability to get the most out of it. My next purchase (and related forum post) will be rear / surround speakers and eventually I would like to improve my left, centre and right setup.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from anyone willing to comment.

Regards,

Darker than Black.

NB: Darker than Black came about because its my favourite anime and working in lighting it seemed ironic and appropriate :D

Welcome to the Home Theater Shack. Darker than black is cool. Actually, a lot of anime is really good. I like some of the old stuff too, like Ghost in the Shell and Akira (I know different style).

Ghost in the Shell is the film that got me started with anime, amazing film (obviously the Watoski brothers though so to. The matrix / GITS comparison on YouTube is very revealing lol). Haven't seem Akira yet but defiantly on my to watch list. Also love anything by Studio Ghibli (especially Howls Moving Castle).

Do love there fascination with the gothic and British Victorian society, makes for some bizarre viewing lol.

If you like Darker than Black and GITS then Psycho Pass and Ergo Proxy are worth a watch if you haven't seen them.

Rant over, sorry not many people around my neck of the woods appreciate a good "cartoon" lol.
