Re: Bram Stoker's Dracula: Cinema Series - Blu-ray Review

Mike, I'm wondering about something I noticed about this soundtrack. My BD has a 5.1 track, and I've always felt like PLIIx just didn't quite get some things right. Last time I watched this, I was switching between PLIIx and 5.1 and found that expanding to 7.1 messed up the rear sound field. The best example was when Van Helsing is about to meet Lucy. The camera is pointed out the door at Van Helsing and Lucy is behind. In 5.1 I can clearly hear Lucy behind me roughly 5' which is close to what the perspective is supposed to be I think. It is very realistic and creepy. When I went to PLIIx it sounded completely diffused and not precise at all. I'm curious if you've experienced this, and if during that scene in real 7.1, does Lucy sound like she's actually behind you.

sorry it took me so long to reply. Been a while since I popped the disc in. This new mix doesn't seem to have that problem as it defaults to a studio mixed 7.1 core if you don't have Atmos and I didn't hear that issue. I checked, but it wasn't replicated on my system at least
