Watched this one yesterday and really enjoyed it. The 3D version is the best I've seen.
How was the sound on the 3D version? The wife and I started it but when I noticed we weren't getting the lossless audio I pulled it out in favor of the regular Blu-ray version.

Curious, you using a slim PS3 for your player? It can't handle the TrueHD and 3d at same time...

Yes, I have a PS3 slim and it is what I use for Blu-rays. Most of the 3D Blu's include the lossless audio track but every once in awhile I'll encounter one that doesn't. Just so happens this latest Star Trek is one of them.

It's on the disc, it's the PS3 getting in your way. I have one, too. It will handle DTS 7 ch 3d, not the Dolby and 3d (so 2d is fine). Unless it's a Sony disc that is, for their own it's okay.... (forgot about that bit for a sec).

yup, that's the problem. Sony has never updated the ps3 to pass lossless DTHD through only DTS... really annoying since the system can handle it, they just haven't implemented it into the firmware

Well isn't that just a crock! Like I said it's happened less than a handful of times so I suppose it's not a major issue. If it is something as small as a firmware update I wish Sony would make it happen. I'll be using a PS4 as the new Blu-ray player here in a couple months. I'm hoping it's no longer an issue with the new system.

Doesn't seem Sony is going to change anything at this point.

Isn't anyone bothered by the hot/loud mix? The clipping baked in (per Nube on the data-bass.com forum review)? The filtering of LFE? That's actually why I dropped in in the first place.

the filtering is definitely an issue for sure. the hot mix... that's stylistic, but filtering of LFE is inexcusable IMO

Re: Star Trek : Into Darkness - Blu-ray Review

Finally watched this... Great flick. Audio and visuals are gorgeous!!!

I'm not much of a Trekkie, but I enjoyed the story... I'll definitely watch it again. I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoyed his film more than the first reboot! Two thumbs up for the lens flair.... Dig it!
