| Boogeyman 3 ![]() Starring: Erin Cahill, Chuck Hittinger, Mimi Michaels, Matt Rippy, Nikki Sanderson Writer Brian Sieve Director: Gary Jones Release Date: 20 January 2009 Runtime: 94 min Region: 1 Format: DVD Movie ![]() This is yet another of the films in series of the Boogyman, a good story in it's own rights that might have given us a good fright as we might all relate to cowering under the covers in fear. It takes place in a college dorm where our lead actress Erin Cahill playing the role of Sarah is a talk show host friends with a group of stereotypical college kids. The movie waste no time getting into the creepy scenes with the typical Hollywood lights flickering, then creature jumps out of the dark type moments. By the time the characters are developed, it isn't long before the oversimplified plot becomes more than a setup for what is to become a routine of short bloody outtakes with little story progression. Between what are supposed to be scary events, the psychology is explained with what most I believe would take with a grain of salt. Poorly written dialogue and scenes of dull, uninteresting locations make what is a short movie, seem to go no place fast. ![]() There is no tie in to stories in the previous movies with this one. It's just a new release of the same story, with new actors/actresses in a different setting. I think that this one tried, but really just comes off about as interesting as the movies where some creature gets oversized and takes out a small population, except maybe excluding Jaws which was good. In fair warning, there was nudity and some drug use in the movie. There was not much a fear factor, and most of the suspense seemed to loose it's intensity. ![]() Acting ![]() There was a great acting performance by a select few I thought. The lead actress could not seem to stay in character but did very well in my opinion, and especially for the role she was given. There were many times however I thought I was going to doze off listening to her, and it was because of her lines I had to continue this movie the next day. That and I thought there was an incomprehensible amount of meaningless subplots between the relationships with characters. Nikki Sanderson gave an outstanding performance and did great at what I think a truly terrified individual would look like in her situation. Every moment she did very.. very well. Video ![]() Codec: MPEG-2 Resolution: 720×480 (NTSC) WS Aspect Ratio: 1.85 : 1 ![]() The video quality looked on par with what the quality of DVD was when it was first released in my impressions. There was not much worth mentioning about it other than the computer aided effects were very non believable. The camera shots were done decently and consistent throughout which in not all that common with good lighting effects and a fair use of different angles to boot. If this had been a better movie I would have been pretty excited to watch it minus the computer graphics. Audio ![]() This had a nice soundtrack. I spent most of the time listening to the music. They perhaps got slightly carried away with the LFE channel, and it didn't always seem to fit in right. English: Dolby Digital French: Dolby Digital ![]() Special Features Deleted Scenes Featurettes - Creating The Boggeyman - Boggey in Bulgaria - Deconstructing the deaths I really wished I hadn't wasted my time watching these. It did nothing for the movie itself and did not feature much of anything worth seeing. Yes it was disappointing, but not as bad as the film. It's always a let down when such movies have great potential based on a prior movie in a series, shrouded in cheap visual effects that really don't prove to be that exciting. That is unless you enjoy these types of movies. I for one don't ever get tired of films that shamelessly give us suspense and gore, but I wasn't entertained as well as I would have liked. If you already picked this one up, you might try skipping towards when the film is almost over as the ending isn't all that bad. This is an example of where I draw the line and say that while I realize it's just a movie, I ask myself what were they thinking when they made this one? If you have not seen the first and second Boogyman you probably should, but I would not waste any time seeing this one unless you are a fan of the first two, but even then it still may not be worth even a dollar rental. ![]() | ||||
