Philips 60PP9202

Hi:

After reading this thread I'm pretty sure the major red convergence problem with my Philips 60PP9202 is a blown STK392-120 chip or both of them.

Philips does not sell service manuals to anyone who is not an authorized dealer. I've tried to Google for a service manual, but so far all the pages I go to are offering the User Guide that came with the set. How to get the Service Manual?

I have removed the printed circuit board, see:
http://www.prc68.com/I/HaT.shtml#60PP9202

But also need to find the STK392-120 chips? I've read about not buying cheap ICs, but where to find the good ICs? The electronic component suppliers like Mouser and Digi-Key do not carry them.

Have Fun,

Brooke

Re: CRT based RPTV Convergence Repairs

Read the first ten posts in this thread very carefully. It should answer most of your questions. Then start a thread in the Philips forum to discuss your repair.

Note that we have now begun moving vendors to the new pull down option at the top of the forum pages. You will find it between "Shack Shopping" and "Glossary". This will represent a great improvement in the vendor reference database, making it easier than ever to find what you are looking for.

Contact me with any suggested entries, category recommendations, or additional information about the vendors that we have. If you are a vendor and want your company listed, there is an option to provide us with the information.

Re: CRT based RPTV Convergence Repairs

Hi:

When I replaced the two STK392-120s the problem was exactly as before. A through check of the board uncovered a couple of resistors that were very white at the center. There were two blown 6.8 Ohm resistors in a group of twelve and they were adjacent to the RED connector (Red convergence was the problem).

After replacing the two 6.8 Ohm resistors the Red convergence can be adjusted to perfect.

I don't understand how to adjust the Blue. The problem symptom is that there's a blue halo around bright subjects. There are six pots in the electronics compartment two each for Red, Blue and Green. One row seems to be CRT brightenss and I'm not sure about the other row. These were turned early on and now need to be properly set.

When the Blue convergence modes are selected on the remote control a green cross (or crosses) appear but changing the setting does not seem to change them and I don't see different colors like the red convergence where when not converged you see a red outline.

How to set the pots and blue convergence?

Thanks for your web pages, they allowed the repair.

Have Fun,

Brooke

Re: Philips 60PP9202

Your posts were moved to a new thread to keep the forum more well organized and so that others may find information more easily.

Read the thread on coolant problems:

http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...-problems.html

The halo you described is almost certainly contaminated coolant.

Re: Philips 60PP9202

Hi:

Yes, I've had that problem for some time, but didn't know what it was.

I think the complete Blue assembly can be removed after unplugging the PCB and the cables. I've done all that, but do not see how to get the HV anode wire out of the main board black HV module.

Thanks very much for your help,

Brooke

Re: Philips 60PP9202

Hi:

It turns out you can just pull up on the HV anode wire and it slides out of the HV three way splitter and the yellow ring stays in the splitter.

Now starting the process of R&R the fluid and cleaning the blue CRT optics.

Some photos at:
http://www.prc68.com/I/HaT.shtml#60PP9202

Can I buy Ethylene Glycol and Glycerine and mix my own coolant, or do I need to find a ready made mix? No luck so far in finding a source for the Philips p/n.

How about adding a fraction of a drop of aquarium "Crystal Clear", and/or Hydrogen peroxide, copper sulfate?

Have Fun,

Brooke

Re: Philips 60PP9202

The yellow ring should come out. It will have to in order to put it back together securely.

Just buy the coolant from a distributor like Acme, Tritronics, or Andrews.
