2 12" subwoofer build, simple but loud

I have a little project I could use some help with. Putting together this enclosure for a friends Truck.

Drivers: Kenwood KFC-W12PS (free)

He wants loud, I guessed 35hz tuning frequency would be ideal. Ran it through ISD and it seemed a 2cf enclosure for each driver with a 4" by 14" port if I remember correctly. So i got to building, at this moment I have a 4cf box waiting for a divider and the top plate. Had me thinking, maybe a shared 4cf enclosure would be better, but I seem to find conflicting results to what really works for these drivers.

parameters and recommended enclosures on PE:

Kenwoods specs:

Hoping for some advice, Id like to do a good job for him. Been a while since I did this kind of work.

I guess I should have said, would you guys do ones shared 4cf ported box, or put in a divider and have 2 2cf ported boxes?

My opinion is that you're in a "six of one, half a dozen of the other" sort of situation. Generally, if you add a driver of the same specs, you have to account for the second driver in the volume of the box. The only thing that would really sway me in one direction or the other here is that by putting a panel in between the two drivers and separating their chambers, you will have stiffened the box considerably. Less panel vibration is better.

Initially my reasoning was also for stiffening, but I can just as easily cut it out and make it a brace rather than divider. I just ran it in WinISD again and for whatever reason I'm getting 30db output at 500watts. So I have something mixed up somewhere!

went ahead and finished it divided. two 2cf chambers.

Might add some dowel bracing, hopefully get a chance to demo it here soon.

I have a sneaking suspicion you're going to find that box is pretty much exactly what the title of this thread says it will be... especially after cabin gain. You might suggest your friend get some ear plugs.

Re: 2 12" subwoofer build, simple but loud

I know I'm in on this late but wanted to say two things....

1) Only reason to divide is the strengthen box. The woofers 'feel' the airspace the same if they are the same spec'd drivers. Having said that, I always divide for added stability

2) How did it turn out?

Re: 2 12" subwoofer build, simple but loud

The most disappointing part of the whole build, is the guy I built them for has never even ran them. So I have no idea how they sound, but am tempting to get them from him to do some testing.
