Temporary Screen Solution

I have a question. I have a Optoma HD70 projector in a light controled room. I have really enjoyed the threads on the DIY laminate screens and would like to construct one myself but my wife and I plan on moving in the not to distant furture and would hate to spend that kind of money when hopefully I can project a bigger image in the furture. I went looking for a 4x8 piece of polywall thinking it would be a cheap tempoary screen but couldn't find it. I can't paint one because we will be trying to sell the house soon. I found a piece of white tile board I figured I could use but there's some pretty bad hot spoting on it. Is there anything I can do to elimanate it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, paint it!

I would suggest starting with Kilz2 and see if that alone is what you want. If you need blacker blacks and more vivid colors then you can try one of the off-the-shelf neutral gray paints; and then, of course, there are the Black Widow mixes.

Thanks, is there any particular mix that stands out above the rest?

How long will you be in the house (and using this screen), Tiny?

Re: Tempoary Screen Solution

Well, It's hard to say. We're not moving because of a job or to another state or anything like that, we just need a bigger place in a better part of town. We hope to move sometime in the next year. I went ahead and ordered some Henry's 558 roof coating. I think I'm gonna go with black widow. For the past year I've just been projecting onto a bare wall. I didn't get a screen cause I'm cheap and needed the money I would spend on a screen to put toward a receiver. However, I've really been impressed with these DIY threads and decided to make my own. I have already seen a HUGE improvement in the picture with just two coats of kilz2 but would like darker blacks.

I went with a 4:1 LW mix. It does look great. Only thing, even after three coats I had some roller marks. You usually can't tell and have to be looking for them when you can. I'll probably try again when we move. I still got a whole can of Henery's 558.

Re: Tempoary Screen Solution

Nope, I didn't see the post about adding water to the mix until after I had painted it unfortunately. However, now that the screen has fully dried, the roller marks are even less visible. Last night I had some friends over and my brother brought over his ps3 so we could watch some blue ray movies on it. I couldn't really see them even in some really white, snowy scenes of the film. Nobody even noticed and I asked them several times about it. But for future reference, how much water should you add to the mix? Also, which screen do you think looks better, black widow or a WA laminite screen?

Re: Temporary Screen Solution

Well I only say add water if it dries to fast. The back rolling is essential when using HE558. Sounds as though yours has turned out fine though!

With regards to my Fashion Gray laminate, I prefer Black Widow. My FG screen has turned a touch greenish as the polyurethane has cured over time. I'll be spraying it soon!
