| Quick question regarding Black Widow I have just painted my second coat of BW the 4:1 Bermuda beige and AAA. Now the second coat is going on 7 hrs. since being painted. Now i love the colors and my blacks indeed got blacker. I know its to early to take a true take of its outcome because it should dry longer but i have a question or two: Like i said colors are a lot better and blacks are a lot better then my Kilz2 painted wall prior. But i do notice in bright scenes like when the sky is the background or a scene when the background is mostly white i can really see the alluminum flakes or sparkle from the alluminum at least thats what it looks like. But when theres color over the screen you can't see it. Now is this just the nature of BW and i'll have to take the good with the bad, or will this fade away as the paint cures? Also is 2 coats good? | ||||

| Re: Quick question regarding Black Widow If you used the AAA(fine), sparkles on a dry BW screen shouldn't be a problem. I can't see any at all when I'm further away than several feet. If you used the Medium or Coarse grade of AAA then that is another matter. Wait until the screen is drier (about 24 hours) and recalibrate your PJ to the BW screen and see if there is still a problem. Most reports of sparkles in a AAA(fine) screen have been due to still-wet paint. Two coats should be fine. | ||||

| Re: Quick question regarding Black Widow Thanks for the response. Yes i did use the AAA Fine. But again it has only been drying for 8-9 hrs. so far. I will wait a day or two and hopefully these sparkles go away a bit. The i'll calibrate the screen. So far i'm pleased with the results. After calibration and putting up my boarder will make the screen even better. Any ideas for what to use for calibration? Last edited by fernalfers; 08-09-08 at 07:48 PM.. | ||||

| Re: Quick question regarding Black Widow Blitz, Avia or DVE should be fine for adjusting contrast and brightness. If you get DVE you also get the filter and can do very basic color adjustment. As to the sparklies, how close are you? You shouldn't see any at all from where you sit. Did you use AAA-fine? I have a 100" sprayed Black Widow and I have no sparklies from the seated area. I can, however, see them up close. If you look through the further investigations threads, you can see what happens from a color perspective throughout the curing process. ![]() Part one. Part two. There's also a part three which will be picking up steam shortly. But the main thing in part three is the investigation of AAA-medium and coarse. | ||||

| Re: Quick question regarding Black Widow Back your brightness and contrast off just a tad, not enough to have the image start to drop in brightness, or contrast. Use Avia or DVE (Digital Video Essentials) but if you don't want to spring for those (a good purchase though) use Get Gray, and ISF has a calibration disk for around $20 that's worth taking a look at. However there is a free method that works quite well, and that is the THX Optimizer that comes on every THX certified DVD. Calibration really does make a world of difference, so try that and let it cure for a week and I think you'll be happy with it.
