Nope, definitely not overkill.

Again Keith, you have a very nice setup that is also cozy and comfortable.

I just ordered Blade Runner and 2001 in high def. I'll have to bring over my player and those two discs and we can run through some screen shots and do some off angle shots as well as with various track lighting on and off. If you're game... be ready for a full day though!

Again, excellent job!

Thanks bill!

Im definately up for it whenever you are. I really need to get on the ball and mail the cut-offs to Mech for testing.

Ive also got 2 more pieces of equipment coming this weekend..

QSC RMX850 Amp for the towers and a DOD SR231QXVLR Dual 31-Band 1/3rd Octave Eq to help tame them.

Re: Laminate Showcase

I think most folks prefer to use Parametric EQ for flexibility and to cut down on introducing comb-filtering. Any chance you can return or repurpose that Graphic EQ?

Listen to the Real HT Info Podcast at http://realht.info, or on iTunes.

Also, listen right here on The Home Theater Shack. Just use the web applet on the front page.

Unfortunately I got a really good deal on it. I have been considering a parametric though but this offer came along and i figured i would take it. Im just not ready yet to put forth the kind of effort needed to properly use and setup a parametric eq.

I will say that I am not looking for "audio perfection" in my room since short of an anechoic chamber for a home theater..its just not possible. My room setup is by far optimal for sound and could definately use some treatments here and there i will admit.

However, once you start, it becomes an addiction, a frustration, a constant battle to achieve that level of audio bliss and Im not ready to put forth that kind of effort just yet. So a graphic eq is the quick and dirty way of doing it to tune the towers for 2 channel listening the way my ears like hear them and not the way the room wants me to hear them. I purposely made my statement simple as I didnt want to turn this thread into a para vs graphic discussion and the affects of comb-filtering and the "fixes".

Please dont take anything I said as an insult..it was not intended as such. If you want to talk about this further than I would happy to do so in the appopriate forum

Re: Laminate Showcase

I have a question regarding the use of either the Wilson Art DW or FG.

How much ambient light would one to have or contend with, before going with the FG over the DW ? I am planning to use one end of my living room for my screen wall. I am in the planning stages, trying to learn all I can before spending any money. Are there some "rules of thumb" to go by ?

Thanks,
John

Tiddler asked me to post this here. Had no idea this site was even around. I guess I'll have to frequent here, HomeTheaterSpot and AVSForum now. I recently built a Laminate screen using Designer White. I've posted an article on my blog that details what I did to build the screen. The article can be found here.

Once I get the projector up later this month, I'll come back and let everyone know how well it worked out.

As for the rest of my theater, it can be found here: Kressilac's Home Theater

Hope you enjoy the articles.
Love the blog . Thanks for the ideas !

Now that you've had your screen up for a while, have you noticed any additional warping of the frame or the screen itself becoming less flat? Did you end up redoing your frame/masking for something flatter? I've had a very difficult time finding straight poplar (and an honest salesperson ). I think I might go with MDF. It's straight and cheap... though a bit heavy. If I seal it and brace it reasonably well, I don't think warping will be an issue.

Check out your local lumber yard. Or go with oak or maple if you have to. If you go with mdf let us know how it turns out!
