painted borders

for those odd few (me) who want to paint the remainder of the wall around the screen are there any sure fire black colors to use or is it just a case of picking up the most black flat paint that is available at the store?

thanks,
nick.

Re: painted borders

How dark do you want to go?

Benjamin Moore sells the darkest most well balanced black that I know- INT. RM 12 Black. It comes it at 46 46 46 , Lab of 18.88 -.01 -.43, Yxy of 2.7187 .31028 .32652. If you want a neutral wall, that's your baby!
This is actually a Munsell N2 match if anyone is interested in that.

If you're looking to just darken the walls, any dark non reflective color should work for you.

Trick/Tip- If you don't have anyone local that sells Benjamin Moore (some True Value store sell it) you can go to Lowes and they can call it up on their computer and do an exact match. I argued with the True Value in my town about Winter Mountain and they said it doesn't exist. The TV in the next town had no problem, and Lowes called it right up on their system. So if you can't find a Benjamin Moore dealer, you can still get the shade elsewhere.

Re: painted borders

man i LOVE this forum! talk about service.

i have a dark granite counter top that butts up to the screen wall so hopefully the black lines in the counter match pretty well with a full painted border. i wont be painting it until i'm absolutely sure on my screen color choice so i have a little while but i'll be sourcing a qt. of that paint tomorrow.

Re: painted borders

Gbr, are you going to have any type of border around the screen or just plan on painting the wall as the border?

Reason why I ask is paint, even flat, and even as dark as this will still reflect some light. If your projected size perfectly matches you screen, then over spill won't be a problem, but if you have some overspill you'll get some reflections. Not much, but I wanted to let you know this won't absorb everything.

Re: painted borders

i have painted the entire projection wall with an EF06 for right now and i'm in the process of dialing in my best image size (80 is as small as i can go and 94 is the largest) as it stands 90" seems to be the sweetspot on the zoom range right now so i'm going to live with that for a little bit and then maybe change the screen color up if i feel i need to to a measured neutral shade and then i'll mask the screen area with a 1/4" overlap and paint the remainder of the wall black.

i guess to answer your question i will have that 1/4" overlap but if i feel i can have no overlap then i'll go for it that way.
