| re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow Keep pluggin' Prof.! Hopefully something will be found shortly. I've been spending too much time on chores lately and not enough on this stuff. Where do they keep the little gnomes/elves that do this stuff?!?!? ![]() mech Got questions? Start a thread. | |||

| re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow http://classicsagogo.co.uk/acatalog/...__Sealers.html Apparently they will ship the product overseas. Via ground though so expect a few weeks or more for delivery. I think I'll wait a bit until I see how it turns out for my friends in the UK first. If it turns out good I may get a can for matching attempts. mech Got questions? Start a thread. | |||

| re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow Mech can probably get you the Lowe's BB formula off a can before I can, but it helps to ask for "PPG Bermuda Beige" and not just "Bermuda Beige". Also, if it helps, the PPG color code is 427-2. | |||

| re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow As Harp said, you have to ask them for the color "PPG Bermuda Beige". And it should come up as "PPG - The Voice of Color". I do not have a quart can laying around anymore. But I do have a gallon! ![]() mech Got questions? Start a thread. | |||

| | re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow The Match-rite system can give different ways to make the same color. It usually depends on what base is being used or if they are low on a certain tint it spits out another mix. They should have a DE of how close of a match it is. I would expect a slight change in the spectral curve since different pigments were used but as long as the DE is 1 or less it should be fine. | re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow well i laid down the first layer of BW last night. the picture looks great. i placed it against the extra white doable board i had. black levels are immensely better, but whites did suffer a bit as expected. i'm sure i can tweak the projector to compensate for that. my question is: my first layer seems to have a thick, even coverage already. is there any reason for me to paint on another layer, or is 1 layer fine? | |||

| re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow understood, and i dont expect to. i had a lighter grey screen before, and the black levels bothered me a good deal. id find myself staring at the black areas on the screen all the time. the blacks on the doable were just awful when put up against the bw screen. i find the hd70's black levels to be too poor to use a white screen. personally, id rather have deeper blacks than blinding whites any day of the week. i rolled the application and it came out geat...it has an even texture throughout w/ no roller marks. i think the people that suffer from roller marks may have been putting too much pressure on the roller or loaded too much paint. | |||

I'm planning on spraying my screen next week. I'm going to spray some panels first though as it's been a while since I've sprayed.I've also got to figure out which ratio I'm going to use.... I'm leaning towards the 3:1. Maybe I'll spray a panel of that and see how it fares before spraying my full screen. ![]() mech Got questions? Start a thread. | ||||

| re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow Ok, I have the AAA (2-4oz) coming Fedex, it should arrive today, and I bought the Valspar interior Flat Enamal, tinted The Voice of Color - Bermuda Beige (427-2). I saw in another thread someone said to add 5oz of water to the mix. Should I add water or not? I am painting a 110" diag screen that is currently using Kilz. I have an Epson Powerlite Cinema 400 (720p, 1500 lumens) throwing about 13 ft. Thanks for any last minute advice before I paint this thing tonight. | |||

| re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow All the people that used BW should post a picture. With a mix that is getting so much attention, you's think it would be a "Post Your Black Widow Screen"....but there's not one....Weird. ![]() Teke, I am in the same boat as you. My AAA arrives today also. I will post pics after I am done. ![]() Last edited by Toocrunk; 06-05-08 at 12:43 PM. | |||

| re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow The Valspar latex enamel levels out very well by itself; adding water to the BW mix might make it level even better, but it would also make it more prone to run. I've thinned my BW mixes with distilled water, but I had to for them to spray well through my spray gun; it really wasn't an option. | |||

| | re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow Plus (at least in my opinion) adding AAA or BJ is already thinning the paint out. When I added water I ended up with a drippy mess and quit with the water after one test panel. The key to rolling is a good quality low nap roller cover and good paint. Valspar, Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, PPG... they are are top quality paints that roll out smooth and lay nice and level. Again in my opinion, adding the aluminum doesn't make it any more difficult to roll. Just make sure you have it mixed well so there is an even dispersion of aluminuim throughout the base paint.
