Elite Silver Frame/EZ Frame Experience

Fairly new here and did a forum search that wasn’t fruitful…

Anyone have experience with Elite EZ Frame or Silver Frame screens? I’m looking for a decent inexpensive fixed frame screen. I can find the Silver Frame shipped for ~$250, while the fixed runs ~$370 (which is about the max I can spend). Screen material is the CineWhite 1.1 gain.

I’m currently using a Mitsubishi HD1000U (DLP) and projecting on to a finished basement wall. The basement is light controlled of course.

I’m not too interested in DIY.

Comments or advice?

Hello Bob! Here's a link to Projector Reviews review of a Elite EzFrame High Contrast Gray Screen. I couldn't find anything on their Silver Screen. If you get one I'd like a review!!

Re: Elite Silver Frame/EZ Frame Experience

Thanks, I don't think I've seen that review. I believe there's a write up over at AVS on the EZ Frame. I'm really hoping someone can provide some real life experience with the Silver Frame. Its affordable price is very attractive right now.

Re: Elite Silver Frame/EZ Frame Experience

Well I've fired off numerous emails to a lot of manufacturers. They're not so willing to send out evaluation samples anymore. I'll shoot them an email though, as it's one I've yet to contact.

I've actually already contacted them, although it was 6-9 months or more ago. I have material samples, although they're pretty small.

I'm concerned about frame quality, waviness, hot spoting, etc. I've read some very early reports of material staining right out of the box. But it's been a year or so and I believe Elite has updated their designs. I'm also wondering how the screen tensioning on the SilverFrame differs from the EZ Frame.

The ProjectorReview link posted earlier (commenting about hot spots) was from 2005. Like said, I think Elite has updated things since then.

I'll probably shoot off another email to Elite too, as the SilverFrame came out after I had previously contacted them.

I sent them one asking for 2 foot square samples. I'll let you know how they respond.

Thought I'd revive this one as I actually have an Elite Silver Frame for review. It took me about 45 minutes to get he whole screen together including taking pictures.
Waves are not a problem either. I think it's a top shelf frame as it's both extremely easy to put together and it's very sturdy!

Did you ever get one of these Bob?

mech is this a fixed frame screen? I thought it was a retractable for some reason if it is.

Well, I'm not mech, but he may be mixing and testing for the next 3 days...it's fixed (at least they said any screens they sent for review were going to be fixed frame).

mech,

I'm glad you dredged this one up again. I was wondering a while back if you were able to get your samples.

Nope. I haven't bought a screen yet. I've been bouncing back and forth over DIY or an inexpensive screen. I'm not in any huge rush to buy anything as the wall that I'm currently projecting on looks pretty good as it is. If I were to buy one, the Silverframe and the eZframe are the tops on my list right now. I'm very interested in your review. Can you post your pictures during assembly? I'd like to see the assembly and frame in better detail than the instructions from the Elite website.

You've got my attention. When will you be posting your review?

Bob

How's this?

It's a great frame! As for the screen material I think I'm gonna wait until I talk to them again. I think I'd like to review their Cinema White material as well.

That's pretty mean, Mech.....

I'd like to see some during assembly pictures if possible (the rear for tensioning and back support and on the front the mitered corners).

I'm quite interested in your review. Not to pressure you at all, but do you have a time frame that your looking at? I'm assuming that if you are deciding on a different material that it's going to delay things a bit. What material do you have right now? Looks like the CineGrey The CineWhite (1.1 gain) is the material I'm considering for paring up with my Mitsubishi HD1000U (low lamp mode almost 100% of the time).

Looking forward to more pictures.

I'm hoping for Sunday... That is their high gain material I believe. I don't think it's as high gain as they say but there is a bit of gain there.

Total time to put it together including pictures was 45 minutes.

Re: Elite Silver Frame/EZ Frame Experience

Per Visual Apex:

CineWhite = 1.1 gain
CineGrey = 1.0 gain
PowerGain (high gain white) = 1.8 gain.

Can't wait for the review. Should I start hitting F5 now?

My bad! I found that right after I posted. I really was kidding -- I know real life takes precendence. While I'm newly registered here, I've lurked for a while, and have followed your work over at AVSForum for quite a long time.

Thanks!
