Spraying the aluminum wouldn't be a problem though. I'd use something like a Rustoleum spray paint to do the job.

Re: Elite Screens Silver Frame Screen Review

I just purchased a 120" SilverFrame fixed screen with the High Gain material but was very disappointed with the gain. The brightness is similar to what I was getting from projecting the image on my wall. The viewing angle is also uniform all the way to 80 degrees in each direction. I have a smaller Da-Lite 1.3 gain screen which is much brighter than this one.

I was just wondering if they packed the wrong screen material. The model number on the carton shows that it should have been the High Gain.

Any idea how to determine if this is really the High Gain screen? I also noticed in your comparison shots with the CineWhite material on top of the High Gain material that there seems to be little difference in brightness between the two. Can you explain why this is?

Thanks

From what I recall it was pretty easy to tell the difference between the two. The high gain was brighter than the white but it also had a graininess to it in bright white scenes. From the sounds of it they sent you the wrong stuff. I'd guess that they sent the gray material.

If you look at the spectrums the high gain appears much brighter than the white.

Re: Elite Screens Silver Frame Screen Review

I'd like to add that it should be easy to rectify this as the material is pretty easy to change out. Give them a call!

Re: Elite Screens Silver Frame Screen Review

mech,

Thanks for the reply. I have already contacted EliteScreen and should be hearing from customer service next week.

I was just curious with regards to an earlier photo you posted in this thread where you compared the HighGain material with the CineWhite. The High Gain did not look brighter, at least not in the photograph. It actually looks less bright. Is this due to the way the image was captured? Did it look brighter in real life?

Show me which picture you're looking at. If it was the one slightly off angle then it more than likely had to do with it being off axis. There's only so much you can do with a picture. That's why we have real data such as the spectro readings and the spectrum images. I don't know of any other forum that has them. Unless they get them from one of our members!

But yeah, the high gain was brighter than the CineWhite on axis. And looking back at the shots they all appear that way. Take a good look at the macro shot witht the penny in it. Is that how yours looks? I'm guessing no.

Overall though I really liked the frame on this screen. It was very simple to assemble and the screen material went in pretty easily too.

A few more pictures...

I was referring to the above photos which as per my understanding you overlaid the CineWhite material on the HighGain to show the graininess in the HighGain.

I do agree with you that the frame is of excellent build quality and the screen is very easy to assemble. I think this is a real bargain for the price and rivals much more expensive screens as far as design and build quality.

SC,

Looking at the pictures of the ice in the hockey shots, the HG seems to be brighter. Don't ya think?

There is a subtle difference but not what I would have expected as per the specs of a 1.8 vs 1.1 gain... but as you mentioned photographs could be misleading due to many factors.

I am hoping EliteScreen will send me a replacement material and I will post a photo of comparing the two.
