Wilsonart Screen with Optoma HD70

Is the HD70 bright enough to use Fashion Grey laminate for a screen, or would I be better off using Designer White?? I will be using a 96" screen in a light controlled basement. Thanks for the help.

Eric, first let me say, "WELCOME TO THE SHACK!"

In what mode do you use your pj? It looks to give off about 400 lumens in it's best (Cinema) mode with lamp on low. That'd put you at about 14-15 lumens...which is right in the recommended range. Of course, as the bulb ages, that will fall.

I'll stop here for now, until you tell us what mode you're using...

Yes, most of the time it will be in the Cinema Mode.

Eric,

Yes it should be fine. My HC3000U is around the 450-500 lumen range and it does extremely well with FG.

Mech, thanks for seeing this and picking up where I abruptly left off! For some reason, the thread was showing no new responses for me, so I missed that there was a reply. Must've opened it and closed it before reading...

Mech,

I'm confused. Here you say FG is fine. When I posted discussing the same projector and also with a controlled space, you recommended DW. We differ slightly on screen size (96 vs 108). Is that the difference?

Doug
PS Eric, welcome! Tell us more about your plans!

Re: Wilsonart Screen with Optoma HD70

He asked if the HD70 would be bright enough to use a Fashion Grey screen. It is - in my opinion - as it's pretty close to the same lumens as my hc3000. But yeah in a light controlled basement a DW screen would be better. Keep in mind that I'm assuming that because he's in a light controlled room does not mean that he wants the lights off all the time. That's similar to me also!

You on the other hand sounded like you were more of a theater guy with lights out viewing. For your situation as you described I concurred with TritonMan's recommendation. It's going well I hope!

That makes sense. It is indeed going well, if slowly. I'm finishing the closets so I can store the stuff in the HT. I'll start framing the HT next week.

Here's some early photos of the project:

Re: Wilsonart Screen with Optoma HD70

I have pretty much the same equip as you, except my screen is not DIY but has a material called cinegray and to me looks nice, now IMO, since my HT is in my basement w/ total light control I'd have opted for the DW if given the choice, there are really good treads on DIY screens to help you decide.
