Using XO to track target curve?

Hi,

When I set XO to 80 Hz I get way to much SPL higher than 80 Hz from the sub. If I lower the XO I manage to track the target curve without using any EQ. Sub+mains are well integrated.

Are there any theoretical problems using the XO to track target curve, instead of using EQ?

Measurements can be posted if you need it.

Regards
Ivan

I think you answered your own question.

I suspect the receiver is doing its job quite nicely, but my quess would be that the sub likely produces a large amount of energy in the ~80Hz+ area that is reduced when using a lower crossover. The mains because of their positioning or capability likely don't have the same problem, so when their crossover is lowered the trouble at ~80+ doesn't exist. This makes for a better transition. I would leave it at that spot.

Thanks!!!

I forgot to mension one thing. I use a Parasound NC 2100 pre. This one have a fixed 80 Hz XO for the mains, while the sub XO is adjustable. I guess what you wrote still makes sense though...
