Connecting external sound card to use with REW

Hello,
just got a DEQ2496, and after first eq attempts of using only the DEQ, i'm looking to use REW to do a better job.
So, using a laptop, i need an external sound card, to connect the ECM8000 for measurement.
Question is : As i read that it must be the 'line in' connection used for REW and not the 'mic in', how can i use an external card connected by pcmcia port, (like the E-MU 1616) or by usb (like Edirol UA-5) ? IS that possible, and if yes, how does it work ?

Thanks.

Simply plug it into the USB port and now it acts like a normal soundcard. You will probably want to disable the onboard card.

The connections for REW are here

OK,
so if i understand correctly, in can plug the ECM8000 on the XLR input of the soundcard and the 'line out' signal will come directly from the usb connection on the PC, right ?

No, the soundcard connects to the PC via USB port.

Then, all audio connections (line-in and line-out or mic-in) are made at the soundcard itself. The USB is like the bus to the PC.

OK, i got that.
So, as i'm using the DEQ between my CD player and the preamp, i suppose i must connect the audio card line out (left or right) to the DEQ analog input instead of connecting to the preamp right ?

What is it you're attempting to equalize? Is the CD your only source and you want to EQ the full range of your system?

Yes, exactly, sorry for forgetting this info.
In fact, the DEQ will stay between digital source(s) and preamp, and the first one to be connected now is the CD player.
And Yes, again the purpose is to equalize full range.

Yep, OK. Then you're correct that you would feed your PC soundcards line-out to the analog input of the DEQ itself (which feeds the preamp and amps/sub etc).
