Could someone help?

Hello everyone!

First of all, I`m new at this and I have a few questions about calibration with a subwoofer and using a Radioshack.Apologise for my english, but I`m located in Norway.

My stereo-setup is;

Source: Pc with ESI Juli@ Soundcard with ASIO drivers
Preamp: Electrocompaniet ECI-2
Poweramp: Aragon 2004 mk2
Speakers: Sonus Faber Concrtino Home
Subwoofer: SVS SB12-Plus
Cables: Tara Labs

I`ve downloaded REW and the calibration file for my Radioshack.

How do I connct all this to calibrate properly? My soundcard has RCA inputs and outputs.I have extra RCA interconnects and 2 Y-adapters to use if necessary.

I`ve read a lot of guides on calibration, but they are only useful to surround-reicivers as I read them.My setup is 2.1 (stereo).

I need a step to step guide to solve this problems.

Thank you for taking time to read this and help will be most appreciated.

Regards
CookieMonzta

Welcome to the Shack!

You should take a look at these links: Link1 and Link2

How do you connect your sound card to your amplifier and sub? I think I get the picture but let us know so we can check that it's correct
You shouldn't have to modify a lot in your setup to include REW, only connect you soundcard to your pre-amplifier as usual.

Thanks for the reply!

I connect my soundcard to CD-input on my integrated amp.( I use it as pre-amp)
Then I connect the SVS thruogh pre-out and to the low level input with stereo-rca`s. From SVS I connect through low level output to power-amp.Using rca all the way.
I have just one pre-out on my amplifier, and I use this solution because I can set the crossover on SVS to 75 hz.My main speakers start to roll off around 55 hz.(the spec-sheet from SF say so)

I hope this clarify your questions.

BTW: your link2 does`ent work for me.

Thanks alot!

I`ve been playing around with REW and RS for a couple of ours now.

This is what I get: See attachments.

The Graphs are with crossover set at 70 hz and without PEQ.
How does it looks? I think the volume on the subwoofer are a bit to loud at the moment.I suppose that I turn that volume down to get better integration with the mains.

Re: Could someone help?

On your waterfall plot click the lin/log axis button in the toolbar at the top of the REW screen to change it to log spacing, then you'll get the full plot. The impulse response is showing high levels of harmonic distortion (the scaled down images of the impulse to the left of the main peak are from the distortion components). Reducing the sub volume should bring the distortion down.

Re: Could someone help?

Thanks for the reply.

Done some new measurements. I lowered the volume on the SVS and got these graphs.
The distortion in the impulse graph went down a bit.The punchattack (?) in the subwoofer was gone though. The SVS is placed in the corner, perhaps I should move it around? I got most bass in that corner, but I have a dip between 40 and 30hz. Or maybe I should starting to use that PEQ in the subwoofer?
I`m totally new on this kind of things,so all help is most appreciated.

CookieMonzta

Re: Could someone help?

Could you post a measurement with your sub as the only source (mains are disconnected)?
