Hi wayne, I was wondering if there are any plans to be able to send tones over a network connecting from REW so we can untether our laptops from our processors. I have an Emotiva XMC-1 and I was also wondering if there was a way I could use its internal test tones with REW.
I am aware of no plans for being able to run REW tones over a network. At some point REW will be able to work with externally generated sweeps, depending on the characteristics of the sweep in question, but no word on when that will be available.
The only reason I ask is that it would make it easier to not have to come in and out of the room to use the laptop. I will have to read a bit and see what is incorporated into the XMC-1. I know there is work being done to port filters from REW to the XMC-1 if that is the correct terminology.
Chrome's Remote Desktop plugin will let you operate a laptop or pc from a remote device. Not the same thing, but a workaround anyway. Gets you out of the room but requires another computer. It does things to drivers, too, though, so it may not be compatible with REW.
I do something similar. Because I use a Windows machine as my HTPC, I just launch a Remote Desktop connection from my laptop to the HTPC. That way I'm free to walk around the house while doing measurements, especially useful on the really annoying 20-20k sweeps!
