| I've got a few questions. I've got a home studio and recently got a ECM8000 mic. Also bought some new studio monitors recently so I'm hopeing to get the room sounding as good (flat) as I can. I don't expect miracles, but hopefully some improvements. So.. I've got the mic, a good flat soundcard and a mixer with phantom power. And ofc this wonderfull program ![]() Is this all i need? where do i begin? I tried reading the manual, but frankly I'm a bit lost. I know the basic principle: using an EQ to fix the peaks/dips in the room response, but it's obviously a bit more complicated than that. Also one thing that bothers me: after all the analasys is complete and i have an eq curve.. how do i use it? Is it in a form of a FIR impulse? And if so can it be used with any impulse reverb VST on the master channel? Thanks in advance. | |||

| Re: Very new to all this and... LfmC, Hopefully, you've looked at the Cabling and Connections Basic thread so you will know how to hook everything up first. You've already found the REW HELP FILES and I suppose you found the calibration file for your ECM mic on the Download page called newecm.cal REW is a measurement tool, but also provides filter suggestions for several types of equalizers that you can select on the equalizer pull down in the REW menu bar. There is also a midi capability from REW to transfer those filters to the different equalizers, but this step certainly isn't necessary, since you can simply enter the filters by hand into your equalizer. In fact, the filter suggestions aren't necessary either if you just want to use REW as a measurement tool / RTA and make adjustments to your speakers, listening position, or add room treatment to get a better response. I have to say all the people we have through here that have small studios certainly don't even want to talk about EQ with their studio monitors. They want to use REW to get the best response the 'natural' way. EQ is for home theaters.... Anyway, look through the links I gave and then start with a PC soundcard calibration before you do anything else or any hookup to your system. brucek | |||
