| Sub EQ Questions Is it best to EQ only the Sub response or EQ when the sub and mains are measured together? In this case the reason I ask is that when I measure both together the response looks pretty good but when measured seperately the sub could use some help to get a flatter response. I have moved my sub to a few different positions and this is the best placement. Here are my measurements with 1/6 smoothing. The X-Over is set at about 80Hz on the SW. The first image is SW only, the second is Mains and the third is measured together. Thanks for your thoughts. | ||||

| Re: Sub EQ Questions The usual method we recommend is to get the best sub response possible by whatever means you use, and then add the mains and see how it looks overall and specifically at the crossover.. At that point you may need to tweak the sub a bit (eq, phase, time, postion, etc). Why bother you say, if the overall looks good. Well, you could have two (sub+main) responses that look identical, but one may have a very limited sweet spot at the listening position. That situation may be a result of two wildly varying responses of both the sub and mains perfectly cancelling the trouble spots to result in a nice response..... just don't move your head. ![]() The other identical response may be a result of someone carefully placing the sub and speakers and maybe adding some treatment to get a smooth sub only and smooth mains response. The response when played together provides a much better situation...... brucek | ||||

| Re: Sub EQ Questions OK, these measurements are from a middle seating location in a small room. I did notice a varying degree of responses from different listening positions. Would you then recommend that I average the two main listening positions and then adjust from there? | ||||

Some people know that they're the only one in the house that cares about response, and so, equalize for the perfect sweet spot where they sit.............. brucek | |||||
