| Something's not right Yes, another noob for REW and BFD. Here we go... Setup: HTPC with Realtek AC97 on board. Using the line out and line in jacks. Linein: mono input from RS Digital meter. Calibration file has been loaded. Lineout: Stereo 1/8" to left and right RCAs. Right side RCA to mono-to dual RCA to left and right aux inputs on receiver. The receiver is a high end Onkyo with basis bass management. REW: Have the Realtek "speaker" selected for line out, and Realtek "stereo mix" for input. Calibration has been run with levels all set as instructed, no errors arising. The soundcard calibration file looks correct as shown in the examples, and is loaded. When I did the various input/output calibrations I selected "Speaker" not sub or external. For the Equaliser menu I have "generic" selected right now, as I'm not going through my BFD. My first attempt was to measure the main speakers. Here is the problem: I select Left channel in the Channel selection pane, with "full range" selected. I run automatic measurement, with sweep 10 to 20k. Problem: I get a totally flat response as shown on the attached. test.jpg Same thing happens for right or sub. Clearly, this is not possible so I must be doing something wrong. I note that the levels shown in the filter panel are at 78dB; this is quite different from the example shown in the help pages under automatic measurement. Any guidance from the pro's would be great. Thanks in advance, Bob | |||

| Re: Something's not right Problem is your input selection, "Stereo Mix" is an internal loopback of your soundcard's output so your input is being fed directly from the output. You need to select "Line In" or similar so REW can see the signal from the SPL meter. | |||

Also see this sticky on posting graphs and axis limits. Also best to turn on the grid lines. Quote:

| Re: Something's not right Thanks to both of you. I tried the line in before but then I got the "input volume too low" error when setting the input volume. But that probably is because adapter issue. I'll get the adapter plug going and see if we get somewhere. Again, thanks...(and nice Elise John ) | |||

| Re: Something's not right Now we're talking! It think it would be very hard to stay indoors watching movies when the Lotus is in the driveway. Then again...I'm picking up a Cayman S this weekend ...two passions are better than one. | |||

| Re: Something's not right I need to bump this thread, since I have exactly the same problem. It's probably some loop somewhere or line-in just not working. I have to say that I'm trying this on an MCE XP so maybe it's some other app controlling the SC. I sure can't get responce from the mic via line-in, but it seems to get the generated signal from somewhere. I'm using the onboard AC97 on an Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard This is what the chart looks like test.GIF | |||
