Input Level Warnings

It seems that the key problem that was causing the problem in the input level warning being to low was a Windows error: the SndVol32.exe file was wiped out. A reinstall of this file did the trick....almost.

Now I get the opposite error: Input level too high. It seems you have to adjust the input level on the line in to be a very very precise and relatively low value, using the Sound level control from Windows. Unfortunately, REW does the input setting so quickly you don't get a lot of time to adjust it while the process runs so it takes multiple attempts. Finally I got it just right. Then the next problem:

I could not set the target level for the sub. Either reading was too low, or the "no signal level" was too high at 61dB.

So where am I going wrong? Any suggestions?

After considerable frustration, I resorted to just using the stepped sine wave output, from 10Hz to 105Hz, and manually taking the readings on the RS, while entering the values in a spreadsheet, using the "new" RS calibration offsets to adjust. I found a peak at 50Hz (85db relative to 75db reference or full range pink noise). Figuring I want the sub system (2 Earthquake Supernovas and 2 Deftech Towers) to be 3dB over the fronts, I targeted for 78dB at 50Hz. This gave me 35 and 65 as the -7dB points around 50, for Q of 1.67. I set this as a filter in BFD, ultimately adjusting it to -5dB at Q=1.5. That measured at 50Hz at 78dB. Tomorrow I'll measure it all over again.

Let me know if this protocol seems workable.

Thanks,

Sounds like you're connecting your RS SPL meter into the microphone-in of the soundcard instead of the proper line-in. Is that possible?
