Desktop/XFI ok to use?

Before I start an attempt at REW tonight - I used REW successfully way back in the day when my laptop worked - i just want to make sure that using a dekstop with an internal (not integrated) XFI SB will work? Hate to go through all the hassle of moving the desktop etc just to find out it's a no go. Thanks.

You don't need to move it to check if it will work (which it will).

Hook up the a cable from right channel line-out to right channel line-in and run the soundcard calibration routine and save the file in REW. Then do a Check Levels routine, and Calibrate SPL to 75dB, and then run a measurement of that cable from 0-20000Hz. If your soundcard file is good, then the measure will be a flat line.
Now you can remove that cable and you're ready to move the computer....

Re: Desktop/XFI ok to use?

hi again. i'm confused as to what is my Line-In on my sound card because i remember i'm not supposed to use the Mic In for REW. here is a pic of the ports with a description, if you don't mind taking a look (click to make pic bigger so you can read it). I'm gonna try Flexi Jack anyway

Yeah, it would be the Flex jack. You may have to tell the soundcard application that it's a line level device (or it may sense it)....

Re: Desktop/XFI ok to use?

i can't get past the soundcard calibration. i get prompt that db is way too low

i can't use the #4 output port in that diagram i posted before, only the 2 or 3 output because the stereo Y adapters are too big to place in output next to the input, so not sure if that is the problem.

the cable i'm using a a phono plug to phono plug audio cable from radio shack - so it's not stereo

here's a pic of my settings

Re: Desktop/XFI ok to use?

The jacks are stereo, so you need a stereo plug that splits into the right and left channel.

Then you'll be using the right channel only.

This is the type of cable you need. Actually you need two of them.

You have line-in enabled in Playback - shut it off and also Midi, CD, Microphone and Auxiliary. You only want Wave for Playback and line-in for Record.
