Calibration Problem

Hi all, please excuse if this has already been covered. My system uses a M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card which REW does recognize and correctly routes the SPL meter output and signal generator output thru but keeps indicating it can't find any volume control for these two signals. Any ideas on how to get this working?

Re: Calibration Problem

With regard to the REW pull-down named Soundcard, what possible selections does it show?

Obviously the default isn't correct. From the help files it reads, REW searches for soundcard controls using the default names Windows uses. The soundcard driver may not offer controls with the default names, in that case the names the wizard has found are listed in the soundcard menu and may be selected manually, the choice is remembered for subsequent startups. The control names are usually those shown on the controls in the Windows mixer.

So, start up REW and pull down Soundcard and see what it shows under Volume Control....

Re: Calibration Problem

The only entry under the soundcard volume pull-down menu is "use default (volume) as due the rest of the pull-down menues under "soundcard". They all indicate to use the default. There are no entries for the M-Audio sound card.

Re: Calibration Problem

Sorry for the delay, been away the last week.

Another user of the Audiophile 9624 reported this sequence worked for him, following problems getting audio output:

1. On the output device select "M-Audio Delta AP 1/2", output "Wave".

2. On the input device select "M-Audio Delta AP 1/2", input "Wave"

3. Switch on the signal generator (set frequency of sine wave gen to say 1kHz to make it easy to hear).... no audio comes out.

4. Press the "Record" button on the SPL Meter and then audio comes out. From now on everything works fine independent of the state of the Record button.

5. Make sure in the M-Audio delta mixer that input is not getting mixed back into the output mix!

If the only problem you are having is with the input level, try just using the control in the M-Audio mixer to set the level.

I would be interested to see the soundcard debug file for your card if you get a chance to post it here or email it to me, use the option in the REW Soundcard menu to generate it.

Re: Calibration Problem

JohnM, I am using a ECM8000 mic to record the response but even if I were to use the SPL meter, it has no "record" button on it. It appears that the output of the REW signal generator is getting to the sound card through the PCI buss because I can see it displayed on the M-Audio Mixer panel. It just is not being outputted through the sound card to the audio receiver. Whats strange is it works if I press the "automatic measurement" button or the "calibrate" button of the REW program but nothing if I utilize the "Set Measurement Level" or Set Input Volume" buttons. In order to get around this problem I have been utilizing the "calibrate" function to get an output from the sound card and adjusting the volume control on my receiver until I get a output of 80db as read on the Radio Shack SPL meter and then inputting 80db back into the REW program. I'm not sure if this is correct but it seem to allow me to get the correct frequency response when I then press the "automatic measurement" button.

Hehehe, when John said, "Press the "Record" button on the SPL Meter and then audio comes out"..,
he meant the SPL meter in REW which has a big red button that has a tool tip that says "start/stop measuring at input". This turns on the REW SPL meter to read the input at the soundcard and then shows the associated level with its VU meters....... It has to be manually pushed (as I understand) with your type of situation.....
