Also, can I just run (1) soundcard MIDI cable output to the BFD input without connecting the BFD MIDI output to the soundcard MIDI input? (Just one cable)

The MIDI output is used to send the filter settings to the BFD or FBQ equalizer.

It is not used for room eq purposes, I'm not sure what its intended use is.

The MIDI out on the BFD was intended to allow for transmitting MIDI data to an external medium such as a computer, sequencer or midi data recorder. This is a feature that was intended but never realized. The data that would be archived was settings and presets that could later be recalled.

Yup, I used a Gameport to midi cable with no problems at all. Worked a treat!

sometimes a midi out port can be used as a midi through ... for communication to the next midi unit
