Hello Folks

Hello Folks

I have just obtained a BFD (can't get the DSP1124p in the UK anymore!) but have been struggling a great deal with REW and have a couple of possibly daft questions to ask:

1. I cannot get a proper reading from the SPL unless I unmute Line In in XP's volume control, which also sometimes gives me feedback. I am confused about the fact that if it is left muted, REW reports an input level even when the SPM cable is removed from the soundcard! REW mutes the Line In on start up but how then is it possible for the soundcard to take a signal from the SPM?

2. I can run a sweep that appears realistic by setting the input volume after unmuting Line In. However, I get a flattish plot that is around 70dB even when I mute my AVR! I can see the sound level picked up by the SPM hovering around 45-50dB when the room is quiet buy REW continues to plot a 70dB response!

Please enlighten me! I am using an onboard soundcard which is part of an Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard.

Thanks

Al

I suspect it's the RealTek soundcard.

The playback and recording mixer of windows will look like the settings below when REW is started. See if yours are the same..(except for the volumes of course, they'll be different on yours).

Make sure you have the RealTek soundeffect manager in the control panel without any effects turned on and the correct speakers and ports selected etc..

Re: Hello Folks

Thanks brucek

Thats right, it is a RealTek soundcard. I have checked the playback and recording mixer of windows and noticed that Line In in Recording Control is not selected and I cannot select it manually. In fact I cannot select Aux or CD Player either. I cannot only select stereo mix or SPDIF in Recording Control.

The RealTek soundeffect manager has no effects turned on and the correct speakers and ports are selected. A Line In input is detected but yet I cannot select any sources in the windows Recording Control. Would you be able to shed any light on this?

Thanks again

Al

Re: Hello Folks

I have just reinstalled the driver and am now able to select Line In. I can't unselect Line In now, its stuck on but for the time being I'm getting proper readings and am cooking on gas!

Thanks brucek

Al
