Using REW filter info

Hi,

1st post so go easy !!.

I have just acquired a BFD to incorporate into my system at home. I've been using REW for some time without the BFD to measure and improve my setup via placement changes.

I only have a choice of com-port (serial D-Sub) output on my pc in the lounge (old dell micro pc) and was hoping someone can clarify 3 points for me.

1. Can I use a com port to communicate with the BFD midi? (i.e d-sub on one end and 4-pin din on the other??). What pin outs would I need? Are there any other choices I have for a midi connection? (In the system area of xp my sound hardware does not list a midi).

2. The filters in REW have gain and Q settings in fractions. I have to round them to enter them manually. Does use of the midi allow more control by setting fractions?

3. The "Q" setting in REW for each filter. When entering the values into the BFD do these transpose across directly (eg Q of 5 -> enter five for bandwidth on the BFD) or do I need to do some sort of conversion??

I have been entering and storing my filters but the Q value is a ?? to me as the filters have created a response different to what was anticipated.

PS: I have read the help files, manuals and many threads here...

cheers.

You have the incorrect equalizer selected.

Select the BFD1124 as shown below and the filters are ready to enter directly into the BFD....
