Sub volume on A/V processor

Hi all

I have a few questions regarding to the calibration with the BFD DSP1124P & REW

I have done like the guide says.

First find out the "clip" level with the bypass function. There I have had to set i at my highest level which is +12 db before it clips in WOTW where the first tripod shows up. And my listening level isnīt that low.

And the guide says to not adjust the sub level on the A/V processor again.
When I have finished the calibration and have to set the level for Stereo, DD, & DTS.
Then I have to adjust the level down to about -5 db in DD mode, and -1 db in DTS mode (my processor has several setups), and leave it at +12 db in stereo mode (for cd-listening, with the same spl at 50 hz and 150 hz). I am using an X-over at 80 hz

My question is then. Will this affect the way the BFD makes itīs corrections ? That I have lowered the sub-out level in DD and DTS mode.

No, but it's a really good point you make.

I've thought of changing this in the BFD Guide, or at least adding a caveat about it.

Listening in stereo, DD, or DTS does alter the level somewhat going to the subwoofer, and some processors allow for individual setups for these different modes. Some also allow (mine is like this) to save the sub level for each different source. So the CD input may have the sub out at +1.0dB and the DVD input may be at -2.0dB.

I guess the rule is to be sure when any mode or source is used that the BFD doesn't clip when at the loudest level you'll likely use.

Re: Sub volume on A/V processor

Thanks for the answer Bruce.
My processor also allows to set up different sub level at each source.

So then I will just go and break my new SVS PB12/Plus2 in then with a on my face
