| REW is spitting through my system OK, well that's what it sounds like ... spitting. ![]() I installed the latest REW on my Win 7 32-bit laptop, connected my M-Audio MobilePre and installed the latest drivers, selected it as the default device(s) and launched REW. I was able to measure and generate a cal file for the "soundcard," but when I went to measure and set levels I got "spitting" along with the noise. And I got that spitting with both Use Main Speaker and Use Subwoofer. (I was connected to the Aux2 front panel Left analog input with mode set to mono using bass management.) My system sounded normal for the Superbowl game, and I did play a few WAVs from the laptop through my system that sounded normal as well. I guess I will re-check my connections and play some music through the MobilePre to my system. Does anybody have any other ideas? Remove and reinstall REW??? Jeff | ||||

| Re: REW is spitting through my system Hmmm... spitting? Post a pic of your soundcard cal file. Before "setting" levels did you try "check levels?" Any messages? -Greg Don't worry... nothing new here, I've already made that mistake. Trust me. | ||||

Basically, I stepped through the setup in 'order of appearance" - Calibrating the Soundcard and then Checking Levels. Whether the higher pitched noise from using the Main speaker or the lower frequency noise from using the subwoofer to check levels, the spurious noise is present. I'm pretty sure that nothing was clipping. I will post the soundcard cal tonight, and maybe even capture and post a WAV file of what I am hearing. Thanks, Jeff

| Re: REW is spitting through my system A wav file or video of the problem will probably be a big help. Ive never come across this one before and its difficult to relate to the issue. | Re: REW is spitting through my system Well, the first thing will be to make sure the soundcard calibrated correctly. I assume when calibrating it you went through setting the input level appropriately. -Greg Don't worry... nothing new here, I've already made that mistake. Trust me. | ||||

| Re: REW is spitting through my system Something with the Sample Rate maybe, or the Replay/Record Buffers? Regards, Wayne | ||||

I don't understand the sampling rate thing because the soundcard and REW were both on the same page, but that seemed to be the change that made the difference. Jeff

| Re: REW is spitting through my system Here's one more thing to try: Unplug your laptop. I was getting an awful lot of spitting/hissing/crackling noise when I first set up REW, and I didn't know what the problem might be. After buying a new sound card, and still getting the problem, I unplugged the power cord and ran off the battery only. The extra noise was instantly gone. Since then, I always run REW off the battery. Scott | ||||
