Anybody tried a USB-to-Serial adaptor?

Hello,

Did anybody tried and succeded in using a USB-to-Serial adaptor on a laptop?
I don't have any serial port on my laptop but I do have the above mentioned adaptor and it works with other devices i am using it with.
Nevertheless when I try it with REW and my Tag Av32D it says the port is in use or no device detected.
I can keep on looking for a solution but I would like to know if i am on the right track, if REW supports this kind of RS232 port.

Thank you.

Re: Anybody tried a USB-to-Serial adaptor?

Does Windows think that it has a Comm1 or Comm2 when you have the adapter installed?

I would think if it does, then REW should see it on startup....

Never tried it myself though. John may have to comment on this..

Yes, it should work, remember to select the comm port that the adaptor is set up to use in the REW Comms menu.

Re: Anybody tried a USB-to-Serial adaptor?

Hello,

Well, no, it doesn't. I just tried through my docking station (which has a regular com port) and it was flawless. It seems there is problem with the adaptor solution, although the adaptor works perfectly well.
I am looking for somebody that tried that actually.
Thanks

I use a USB-serial adaptor (several as it happens). Some adaptors can end up on different ports each time you plug them in unless you configure them to use a specific port number, try looking at the properties of the adaptor in the Windows Device Manager and see if there is a setting to choose the com port number the adaptor should use.
