Re: 1st graph (before)

Raise the signal level a few db... try at least 80db on the meter when measuring and turn the mains off initially. Measure only the sub to start with since that's what we are trying to correct. You may need to raise the volume on your sub itself so that it's a bit hotter than your mains.

Go ahead and make that graph 800 pixels wide too.

Btw... did you get your soundcard working? If you did then please (if you don't mind) see if you can help Ryan in this thread. I believe he has the same sound card as you. Thanks!

Thanks, I'll do that. I keep crossover at 80 hz, right?

Re: 1st graph (before)

Yeah I saw your question and checked out the thread and he seems to have it working now.

I have a question about your suggestion to get db up to 80.

With analog output via my soundcard, I had to crank up the receiver to -14 on the dial to even get to 75 db (with digital out, I can get 80 db at like -22 or something).

So . . . to get to 80 db with analog, I am probably going to have to crank up the receiver to -10 or -8. Is that a problem? I guess one thing I can do is turn up the sub gain (it's at 50% now).

But if I juice everything just so I can get 80 db via analog, does that affect anything when I go back to digital (you know when I watch dvds, etc)? I mean, I would have to turn down the gain and receiver then because I'll get 80 db easily with everything turned out via digital.

You're getting a few issues confused.

The reason we're using REW and our computer soundcards is simply to aid in the setting of the BFD filters to smooth the response of the subwoofer.

The setting of levels in our system for listening is another issue. You would use the internal test tones in your receiver/processor and its various speaker trims to set these levels.

If you need to mess with levels because your soundcard is challenged in analog vs digital (although I've never experienced such a thing before), then make the neccessaey changes to accomplish your filter/REW duties and then return the levels to normal when your finished.

Re: 1st graph (before)

Don't mess with your subwoofer gain in your receiver to increase the volume though... use either the receivers regular volume control or the sub amps volume control. Then just level match it back to your mains when done measuring.
