Alarms in REW?

Today I ran some tests with REW to tweak the subwoofer distance stting in the AVR. When I first connected it all up I connected the mic to the wrong input channel on my soundcard. I ran the sweep and there was a high pitched beeping playing through the speakers during the sweep. When I fixed the connections it went away.

What a cool feature.

Harry.

I haven't noticed the alarms, but interesting you should be using the REW to check the sub distance in the AV. I ran a few sweeps with MAINS + SUB using the AV amps "auto" distance for the SUB with the BFD in place, then the physical distance as measured (much less) and finally the physical distance plus 1ft for the BFD (which was still about 400mm less than the AV amp's distance).

There is no doubt and it was as clear as day the the amps auto distance setting produced the best response with mains and sub. Even though it was "wrong" compared to the physical and BFD 1ft adjustment rule.

I've always suspected that the Amps delay/distance settings are more likely to be right than using a tape measure! Now I have proof. Well for the sub at least!

Hmmm. Don't know what might cause that but it's not anything REW is doing...

My physical measurement is 2.6m but I got the best integration setting it at 3.6m.

Misaligning the distance setting changes the phase through the crossover region...

If you have variable phase on your subwoofer, try rotating it 90 degrees and run the auto config thing again. If it's worse, try rotating 180 degrees from that position.

Yep, thats the idea, my sub amp doesn't have a phase control so the distance setting can be used to infinitely adjsut the phase.
