First timer questions.

I've been lurking around here for a couple days now reading as much as possible, very enlightening. There is still alot that I do not understand so hence this post of noob questions. I have a Denon 2805 arriving Friday. I do not have a BFD. The Denon has an auto eq which I don't put much faith in, but it has, I believe, an eight band equlizer for each channel that can manually be adjusted. I know that this is not close to the tweaking that could be done via the BFD but it is all that I will have for a while. My sub is a B&W ASW 600 .
Questions:
1. Will it be worth my while to use the Denon eq manually, based on REW results.
2. Before I run REW do I need to set distances and levels of my speakers in the 2805.
3. Should I use different eq settings for different inputs e.g. music vs HT.
4. Is it correct that I should strive for a flat response from my sub and a house curve for FR,FL with sub.
5. What kind of curve for 5.1 movies.

When I had my 3805 and 3806, the Denon EQ did effect my sub response, although I had the mains set to small and the x-over set to 80Hz... it dropped my LFE response by 6db or so. So I decided not to use it.

You definitely need to run the Auto-Setup in the Denon before doing anything else. Then you can run REW and look at your sub response.

As far as music, HT, house curves, etc... all of that is totally up to your preferences. You can try different curves and see what you prefer.

Hi Chris, welcome! If I am not mistaken, the Denon only eq's down to 63hz. That can have some effect on the bass above that level. You could play around with sub placement. Usually a corner not close to an opening will allow for room gain. Just about every home I have lived in had a big room boost at about 50 Hz. Before I got a BFD, I found an eq that went to 20 Hz at a pawn shop. I think if you will use the Room EQ Wizard, you can tell how much equalization you might need.
I now have the new Denon 2807 that has the Audessey MultiEQ built in. It works great. I hope to have some pics and graphs up in the near future. Keep reading and keep asking questions. Let us know how it goes. Dennis

That is the center frequency, but for some reason it has a extremely wide bandwidth. My response was down 4db (I stand corrected, it was 4.1db, not 6db as stated in my previous post) from 15-30Hz using the Audyssey MultEQ. There could be something else going on, but I know whenever I turned the MultEQ off... the response returned to normal... and 4db may not seem like much, but I could tell a difference.

I think the Audessey MultiEQ goes all the way down, but, the non-Audessey Denon's don't as far as I know. I am not real sure of this. I know Yammie's YPAO stops at 63HZ, tho. If I understand the Audessey website, it is capable of corrections at just about any audible freq. I do know this; when I use it on my system, it makes a very noticable improvement, especially when listeneing off center. Dennis
