| Second Time is the Charm with new REW I had a terrible first experience with REW this summer. I was unable to get any useful measurements because of a horrible whining noise the system generated. Despite several suggestions from other forum members, it didn't go away and I gave up. I started looking at the REW forum again when the new version of REW was released. I love the new look and the help files are even better. I also found a suggestion to run Dell laptops on battery power only and not have them plugged in to an electrical outlet. I am not sure what made the difference, but I tried everything again yesterday and it went as smooth as you could imagine. I had a corrected room response in about one hour. I can't believe how well things worked. The new REW is much more understandable to me. Thank you John for continuing to work on improving this great tool. Have a look at my uncorrected (pre-BFD) and corrected (post-BFD) graphs and let me know what you think. I only did subwoofer response last night, not sub plus mains. This is the uncorrected room response ![]() This is after BFD filtering the room response. I had to turn the volume up for the second measurement because I had too low a signal after I removed the 14 decibel peak at 42 Hz. ![]() Unfortunately after I got it looking like this, I had to go to bed before I was able to do any subjective listening. That's on the menu for tonight. It went so well that I may try loading a housecurve on another pre-set and seeing if I like that sound better. Any feedback on the graphs? I left the response a bit higher at 20 Hz on purpose. Would anyone recommend that I try to get it flat there as well? | ||||

I would of course, add the mains when you get the time and make sure that the crossover area doesn't get messed up. brucek | |||||

| Re: Second Time is the Charm with new REW Wade, Now that you have had time to listen to the changes, what do you think? I ended up with a 5dB peak from 80 to 30 for my house curve. That made it more exciting in the lower region. Enjoy John | ||||

| Re: Second Time is the Charm with new REW How big is the room you have this sub in? The room is 13 ft wide, 38 ft long and 6 ft 8 in high for a total size of about 3,300 cubic feet. Now that you have had time to listen to the changes, what do you think? Unfortunately I have been working all weekend and have spent a second listening to the system. Tonight I might get some time. I'll post when I've had a chance. I'ld like to try listening to a pure flat response and comparing it to a house curve. That will probably be later in the week. I would of course, add the mains when you get the time and make sure that the crossover area doesn't get messed up. Yep, that's on my "to do" list. I'll post the graphs when I get them done. Thanks for the feedback. | ||||
