Can I still run the 2nd to last REW??

hi everybody

Whilst I have had the new version of REW for a while now, and mucked around a little with it, it was only really today that I got stuck in 'in anger' as it where, and went ahead and re-eq'd my system.

Anyway, for a number of different reasons, I have found that I much prefer to use the previous version! I think I could very well be in a minority here, as every other feedback I've seen is overwhelmingly positive, so I hope I don't give offense!

Of course, it may simply mean that I need to put more time in, but TBH I don't think I'll change my mind.

So, that leads me to the crux of the matter, is it at all possible for me to get a copy of the previous version??? I couldn't see it on the downloads section. Also, if I can somehow get that copy, is there a way that it could co-exist on the computer with the newer version?? ( as soon as I downloaded the new one, it unfortunately overwrote the old )

If the two can't co-exist, then personally I'd take the previous version. It would be best if both could be accessed, as I can see that the new one does some things the older didn't, mainly in the FR I suspect.

thanks for that

terry

Simply install them into two different directories. They co-exist quite nicely.

I can't think of anything that the old one does that the new one doesn't do better. Can you expand on what you prefer about the old one. The new one is much easier to use.

The previous version is available for download directly from the REW home page http://www.hometheatershack.com/roomeq/

Re: Can I still run the 2nd to last REW??

thanks guys, I did try looking - honest!!

Bruce, will wait till my more computer savvy girls get home from school and then try it.

I certainly could list a couple of points, but in a restricted environment like the internet that would come across as sounding critical, which is certainly NOT my intent or feelings!!! I find the 'usability' of the previous better, but as I say it is possible that may be due to me lack of facility with it.

But I don't think so ha ha. Just personal choices I suppose!!

Either way, it is a FANTASTIC product - whichever is used- and thanks goes to John. Thanks also goes to the regulars here, in all the different forums, who patiently help and answer questions usually with very little recognition, so hopefully this tiny bit of recognition and validation gets thru!!

Boy, I'm all warm and fuzzy this morning, don't know what is going on........

Terry,

I doubt you’re more computer illiterate than I am, and managed to get there. Once you get the hang of it I think it’s easier to use than the older version. When you download the new one, it automatically loads up the calibration files you had for the old version – that’s a lot of the “start up” hassle right there. All you need then is to figure out where to go to set the input levels and such – the Help function can point you in the right direction there, and if not, then your pals and buddies here at the Shack can show you the way. The best feature IMO is that you can do several sweeps that “store” on the left side of the page, that you can call up just by clicking on them. Makes it really easy to compare your EQ adjustments with the baseline, or experiment with different locations, etc.

So hang in there, buddy – trust me, it’s worth it!

Regards,
Wayne

Re: Can I still run the 2nd to last REW??

Hi Wayne

The waiting for the girls bit was simply in regard to the storing of the old program in such a place that I can have both, that's all. You are totally correct, the actual working of the program is picked up by the good folks at this forum.

Re the calling up of old measurements from the left pane, couldn't we also do that in the previous version?? excepting that the old version had the tabs along the bottom.

At least with the old version, I could choose to overwrite (say) tab4, and put a new measurement in. I've yet to find how to overwrite a measurement of my choosing. What I mean is, say I've only done three measurements to date, clicking on measurement button will bring up tab 4 and load the new measurement in there. The old on I could choose where to put it.

Say I've done as much measurements as the program can handle, then each new measurement will start deleting from the top, I preferred being able to choose which measurement to overwrite.

Having said all that, I haven't yet read all the help files on the new one yet, for all I know there may be a way to overwrite the measurement and not bring up a new one.

Also, at least with the old program all the choices were made under the graph, ie once we had a full scale depiction of the graph then it stayed that way. To go back to 'full size' on the new we need to 'get rid of' the left hand area, then bring it back when we want to change smoothing for example. Seems to me to be a bit of double handling as it were.

Anyway, having both means I can pick and choose, and who knows, using the old one again may re-acquaint me with it's idiosyncratic nature and convince me the new one is indeed better!!!!

It is interesting that the new program is overwhelmingly endorsed by all, I must just be a rebel!! ( or stupid, which is much more likely ha ha)

Will let you know.
