Can REW measure using an external sweep?

Is it possible to use REW to measure frequency response when I play a sweep using a test tone from my HD DVD player as the source, instead of using REW to generate the sweep?

Long story short is that there is much talk about LFE level issues (bugs) with some receivers where the output is about 10dB too low when sending linear PCM to a receiver using HDMI.

Anyway, what I'd like to do is play an LFE only test tone from my player over MPCM and measure its response, then do the same with Bitstream and see what differences if any are present. Is this possible using REW? Thanks.

I don't think REW can do that but you should be able to do what you want with an SPL meter.

Yes it definitely works with the SPL meter but I thought it would be much better to have the response curve plotted and saved for reference rather than just eyeing it off of the meter "live".

Hi everyone. I know I'm a newbie here, but I've been a long timer on both avsforum and the Slimdevices forum. I'm moving to implement DRC through my Squeezebox source. I've been reading about REW for some time now and have it just about all set up on my system (ECM8000 and Mobilepre).

To the point of the original post, I would also put in a vote for this feature. If one were to use a RS meter to set the SPL per the Calibration procedure using (assuming available) and external signal, and the Measurement function were modified to allow the option to use and External Sweep, then it could be done. My vote for this is based purely on my use of the SB as a source, and the availability of test tones for it. You could then get a room response that would automatically take into account the vagaries of the entire signal chain.
