REW can't get a non corrupted reading

Hi folks,

Just starting in the game and trying to measure my room. I'm running into trouble calibrating the soundcard. REW either tells me "Impulse Peak is not where it should be" or "Clipping was detected in the input data" It no doubt comes down to the mixer in my card but I'll be danged if I can set it right. I'm using a PCI 424 card from Motu, a high end card with monitoring built in to defeat latency.

I've tried it twenty times, fooling around with the input volume, disabling monitor paths, etc. I know it'll be tough to get help for the card but I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious somewhere else. If I can't get it going I'll just go to the store and buy a connector and use built in audio. (I'm on the Mac, 10.4.8, REW 4)

Thanks
Michael

Hi there,

Check out this thread: http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...revisited.html

Maybe your problem is different but you can try REW 3.29 as this seems to work a better on the Mac (for now).

Thanks Mace, guess I could've looked around a bit before I posted, huh?

So has anyone on the Mac been successful with version 4? And if you were succesful did you choose Java Sound Engine as Output and Mac OSX Core Audio as Input? Looks like I'm going to try my luck with the previous version. (do I have to downgrade to the previous version of Java too?)

And related.... has anyone tried this on a Mac running Windows emulation software yet?

Regards,
Michael

Hi,

No, you don't have to downgrade Java to use REW 3.29. It seems to work just fine and the prefs seem to be the same as REW 4 (default cal files for mic and soundcard etc.).

As far as using virtualization software like Parallels this guy did it and it seemed to work much better! http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...-book-pro.html

I did a search for Mac on this forum and found some other interesting tid-bits. All in all it seems like Apple's Java implementation is lacking... and I believe this to be true. Apple's Java has always lagged *way* behind other platforms, especially in speed, since the inception of Java more than 10 years ago. But, hey, I didn't buy a Mac to run Java!
