SoundBlaster MP3+ feedback issue

I'm trying to do some measurements with REW using an external soundcard, but I've got some major feedback problems. The soundcard I'm using is the SoundBlaster MP3+ (it's differently named in Europe I think). I pretty sure it's the one pictured right here:

http://www.hometheatershack.com/room...ngstarted.html

I'm not sure how to disable the "monitoring" or whatever causes this feedback. I cannot find the original CD and as far as I know there's no way to do this in the driver driver (I've got installed).

Do I have to get another external soundcard or is there a way (to get to the software so that) I can fix this issue?

-Rune

Go HERE at Creative website and click on Downloads and follow the questions through until you gat to the SoundBlaster MP3+ card for the drivers and application and download them. Give that a try and see if it loads the cards software to reveal all your settings.

Thanks for the tip, but I've already tried to DL the MP3+ related drivers/apps on the Creative web site. I still didn't see any soundcard controlling (at detail level) apps.

I will have another go, however, and see if I missed something.

If I still cannot find it I'll have to buy a new card. I'm not satisfied with the MP3+ anyway. It was quite noisy (amongst other things I could hear the mouse movement on the analog output from it...).

Can you recommend an USB soundcard?

You don't have to disable the monitoring. You just have to turn down/mute the line-in input from the play control side. Just double click the speaker icon on the lower right corner of your desktop to access the sound settings. If you can't see the slider for the line-in, click options, properties, and tick the line-in. Now you should be able to turn it all the way down or mute it (doesn't matter which one). You shouldn't get any feedback after that.

I'll certainly try this when I get home. I was thinking along the lines that you describe, but I thought that I couldn't mute LINE IN as long as I was supposed to use it (the signal from the SPL meter).

It was a little bit suspicious that I first didn't have the feedback problem and then suddenly did. If what you say is right, I've obviously have done something stupid with the sound settings some weeks ago...

Thanks for the tip!

You have to disable the line-in from the play control. Line-in must be selected in the recording control.
