mounting brackets

Hi,

I wanted to take the mounting brackets off my BFD but when I did noted that there was now a big hole

so I put the brackets back on. Any thoughts on this? Should I just tape up or would any dust ingress cause problems?

I doubt dust would be a problem. Typically I have dust accumulate on top of my gear, not the sides.
