I want to simplify my equipment setup, can I do this?

Currently I have a ecm8000 mic hooked up to a Behringer 802, for phantom power and an M-audio 24/96 external sound card.

The soundcard is not USB bus powered, and it appears to me that the 802 is possibly overkill for mic power. The power cords are a pain... I also don't use this equipment for anything other than calibration nowdays.

Could I sell both of these units and switch to an M-audio mobilepre ? Without causing myself too much trouble? Or am I better of sticking with what i have?

My main concern really is loosing the ability to easily adjust the mic input on the 802. I gather I can still do this just from inside the soundcard software?

Thanks for your input. (pun intended)

Yep, several members here use the M-Audio molbile Pre with good results. It has its own phantom power and mic preamp..... The Mobile Pre has its own gain knobs if I remember. Just download the manual and I think you'll see it would be fine....

Thanks brucek, I have read a few of the threads relating to this unit. The only issues I saw were relating to not being able to include the mic preamp in the cal loop. But then I can't do that now anyway, so nothing lost.

If I am going to start from scratch, is there any other product I should consider?

No, I think you've got the right stuff, either way. Certainly the ECM8000 and 802 is a great combination, but the M-Audio Mobile pre along with the ECM mic is very good also.....
