Can't get REW to import response


I created a FRD file using your Excel spreadsheet for my RS SPL meter and SPL Trace. I viewed the file in Notepad and it looks good, it seems follow all the guidelines listed in the help section of REW. I can't get it to open with REW for some reason. With REW open it go to import measurements and browse the folder where the file is and it will not show up, I have it saved in that file with both .frd and .txt extensions and still no luck. I even tried setting the files up so that they open with REW and still no luck, REW will open but no frequency response is loaded. Any suggestions?

****I fixed the problem...In the FRD file there was a space and a zero after each SPL number, I removed them and now it seems to work fine.****

Can't imagine what could be wrong. It's quite straight forward as you've indicated. I used it lots myself.

Can you attach the file so I can have a look at it? I can easily tell you what's wrong.

As I noted above I did manage to get it to work, Here is a sample of the original so you can see what I'm talking about.

All I did was remove the zeros at the end of each line and fixed the spacing to line up the colums exactly. I resaved it again with a .txt extension as I had tried before and this time it worked fine.

The fragment you posted imports fine as is - can you post or email me the original file you were trying to import please to see what the problem was.

Bruce,

I can't attach any of the original files, they alll say invalid file when I try to upload them. I tried creating a new file with SplTrace just as a test and it says invalid file when I try to upload it here as well, although I can view it just fine in Notepad or SplView. I see that it does have an .frd extension, and that appears to be the problem. As soon as I open the test file with notepad and re-save it under a new name it saves it as a text file and it works fine. It's odd because if I "save as" under the old file name it replaces the file but keeps the old .frd extension even though I am telling it to save it as a text file. Some of the other ones I tried changing the extensions on manually now have two extensions (test.frd.txt) and that explains why they wouldn't work.

So it looks like any files created with SplTrace must be opened in Notepad and re-saved under a new name in order to convert them to text files and have them read by REW.

I've amended the default file type filter for the next version to show files with .txt, .dat or .frd extensions in the data import file dialogue, although even with the current version the file filter can be manually set to show "all files" and .frd files would then show up.
