Vista and Edirol UA1-EX: Sound from mic (input) is being sent to output, bad results

Hello,

I have REW and I am trying to use a Windows Vista laptop with the Edirol UA1-EX sound card.

When I setup my microphone and audio output as described in REW's instructions, the input in the microphone actually goes through the output of the card, and comes out the speakers.

I can't get a good measurement, because this is causing feedback that is impacting the results.

Is there any way to turn off the input passing through to the output?

Find the checkbox in the soundcard application software that enables monitor mode. This is a standard feature in most soundcards (that goes by any number of wacky names) that is used to monitor the sound through the speakers when you are making recordings of CD's etc.

It definitely needs to be off to use REW......

This may or may not have a bearing on the solution, but I read that only the very latest Creative Vista drivers enabled the monitoring to be turned off, prior to that a "feature" did not allow it. But as this is Edirol the Vista drivers may be OK. If not, perhaps a download of their latest drivers too may be worthwhile.
