Parasitic mains?

I'm still learning, but was surprised to see that when I added my mains in, I got a lower sound level. Is that a phase problem or perhaps a crossover problem?

My crossover at the receiver is 100, the speakers are all set to small.

Red is sub only, blue is mains only, black is combined.

One and the same. Play with the sub phase to eliminate the dip. You can also move the sub distance trim in your receiver a bit too, if phase doesn't work.

Re: Parasitic mains?

Un?fortunately, my sub is an IB. I did notice that moving my sound meter to a different part of the room really changed the curve- though it was still parasitic.

What I meant by crossover was the setting on the receiver. For my sub, about the only thing I can do is do it wholly 180 degrees out of phase (reversing the leads).

I'll give that a try.

Is my huge dip at 58 due to a room null? It occurs even without the mains.

Probably is, seeing how narrow it is.

I’m assuming your receiver can’t do delay adjustments?

Is your sub closer to the listen position than the mains? If so, you might get a pro-audio effects processor that could dial in the delay factor you need. Alternately, PPI used to make an analog phase unit for car stereos that you could try for the mains, if they’re what's needing the delay. They don’t make them anymore, so you’d have to eBay it.

Regards,
Wayne

Re: Parasitic mains?

What do you think about just 180-ing the woofer?

Re: Parasitic mains?

I re-set my speaker distances and the curve looks much better now, no 180 needed.

Thanks!
