Now What?? after measurements

Ok, I have decided to invest the money into a SPL meter and downloaded the REW last night. So, I've been reading through the help files and got to the end (so I think). I have not attempted any of it yet but plan to tonight. But what I need to know is this: After I make my reading and get all of my "EQ filter" read outs...What do I do with it??? I see you can send the results to a BFD EQ. But what if you dont have a BFD. All I have is my Pioneer 1016 receiver. Can someone please tell me what I need to do, because I do not see this in the help files?

Thanks!!

You will want to try and use your results to discover what area of your room has dips. Any dips means your db are not the same for every freq and you will want to make that a flat response. You can choose to fix those using room treatments or other method if you want.

Re: Now What?? after measurements

So youre telling me i would have to adjust my room and not my receiver? I went today and looked at my receiver's manual. All I can do is adjust the distance of the speaker and the freq cut offs..80, 100, etc. Oh and select large/small. So this REW pretty much does me no good unless I have an eq such as the BFD to go between my outputs (dvd, cable, etc) and the receiver? Is that what I am seeing or is there something else??

REW suggest filters for parametric equalizers, which is a device to place between the receivers LFE/SUB out jack and a subwoofer. The filters are entered directly into the equalizer, either by hand or directly through a cable from REW and your PC. If you have peaks in your subwoofer response because of room modes (and everyone does), they will be removed by the equalizer. The equalizer most people use is the Behringer FBQ 2496 or the BFD 1124P.

Above the subwoofer range, up to about 500Hz, people use REW to establish where room treatments would be effective.

Thanks for the info. It seems like this will never end!! I guess I will now be doing research on this EQ and getting one....HOPE ITS WORTH IT!!! Do you know of anyone who sells it, like a BB or CC that way I can try it, and if it not worth the $$ , I can return it?

It's not really a mainstream device. Most people get them at local guitar/music shops...

Wich makes me think of the saying:

The room is the other half of the loudspeaker. **

It is, no loudspeaker will sound OK in an untreated room.

Well, if you are lucky of course it could, but generally speaking .....

**Actually it is, the antenna is the other half of the radio.

.... completes my first posting in HTS ....
