| REW/BFD input level setup on a yamaha rx-v661 ? Not sure if this is in the correct forum...Here is the scenario... A Yamaha r-v661 with amps used for the front and rear pre-outs and a sub connected....I'm trying to set up my BFD input level by turning on the receiver and setting it at 0db(calibrated to 75db reference volume) and then turning off all amps (and sub) so I can watch the input level bars without destroying my ears. I'm using the Flight of the phoenix clip to find an input level. Every time I get a few seconds into the clip the receiver shuts off. If the volume is reduced a few dbs it does not do it? What is happening? The internal amps aren't being used at all?!?!? Is this a faulty receiver? Am I doing something wrong? Is the source signal clipping which is turning off the receiver? | Re: REW/BFD input level setup on a yamaha r-v661 ? Seems strange that the receiver shuts off. I suppose they could be detecting a clipped line signal internally and shutting the device down, knowing that this wouldn't be good for the amps (even though they aren't being used). ![]() brucek | |||

| Re: REW/BFD input level setup on a yamaha r-v661 ? I just found that the internal test tone generator is useless. I originally calibrated with the internal tone generator but when I used the avia dvd the levels were louder by 8db. Looks like there is a component mismatch here. If you don't use the dvd than you may not be getting the right calibration. Why even have a tone generator in the receiver? How would I calibrate the tv output? | |||

| Re: REW/BFD input level setup on a yamaha r-v661 ? I think the important thng about receiver internal test tones is not that they provide an accurate absolute level, but rather they allow for balancing the speaker levels. brucek | |||
