Equipment setup

Good Morning.
Just downloaded the softwware so new to this.
I am using a rme fireface 800 firewire interface. I don't have a sound card installed in my computer.
Can I test the room eq using this equipment. If so I presume you install the eq module between the output of the fireface 800 and the nearfield monitors. The calibration file is uploaded to the Eq module which then controls the output of any music I play to match the EQ of the room. Is that correct???
John

I am supposing that the nearfiled monitors are actively powered, so yes you're correct in the setup.

You'll require an SPL meter of a better quality than the usual Radio Shack variety to do full range tesing. We recommend the Galaxy CM-140. We have the calibration file on our download page.

You'll need to do a soundcard calibration of your RME unit with a loopback from line-out to line-in. See the REW HELP FILES on how to carry out the setup...

Be sure to do all your setup and testing with all the effects and special modes and internal EQ etc., of the RME shut off. You want a simple flat line-out channel.

Re: Equipment setup

Many thanks for the information. What about using this software in a room where you doing recordings, vocals , guitar. Anything different that needs to be done.

Re: Equipment setup

Yeah, I don't know much about studios, but certainly there would be an advantage to a flat response at the mic position and also at each instrument position. REW would be useful in setting up room treatments and traps etc for the best overall response. REQ has a nice feature where you can average any number (up to eight) measurements and then average them to create a new ninth response. The filters suggestions can then be applied to this new average response to give a wider equalized area. In my home I take a measure of three couch and two chair positions and then average them and have an EQ of filters for that average response. Then I have another set of filters specific to a middle couch seat for critical listening at that spot.
